RESTAURANT REVIEW: A FEW NEW YORK HIGHLIGHTS

RESTAURANT REVIEW: A FEW NEW YORK HIGHLIGHTS

Although I feel like I am currently eating my way through New York, I am thankfully also walking many miles around this fun city. Along the route I have been stopping for numerous breaks to sample the delicious food on offer here. On my first night in town Carl, Liz, and Amy took me back to a favorite restaurant that is so tiny you could easily walk right past it. Located in the Hells Kitchen neighborhood called Empinada Mama’s it serves delicious food and a great white sangria that goes perfectly with their homemade guacamole and plantain chips.

Amy and Carl have introduced me to a new drink, Shock Top, that is quite refreshing after a long days sightseeing but probably not so good for the waistline.

This pizza shop was just one of many that we passed and have yet to sample on this trip but I think that’s on the agenda for today.  Must try some NY pizza before I head to Chicago tomorrow to sample the delights on offer in that city. In January we went to the famous Lombardi’s in Little Italy but there are certainly plenty on offer in this city.

Being a coffee lover, its so nice to see so many independent coffee shops and so far we have tried out two great shops in Harlem, where Amy lives.  On our first morning we had a delicious latte with bagels and cream cheese, Amy’s being tofu cream cheese which actually tasted really good. Yesterday was probably not so healthy, although delicious, our latte was accompanied by a ‘sticky bun’ full of nuts and goo.

When I was in Mumbai last week I read an article in a health magazine about a little shop in Soho so we tracked down Miss Lillys Bake Shop and Melvins Juice Bar and sampled a healthy lunch and a smoothie. We met Melvin, and was actually asked to dance with him, as loud music is part of the stores experience.

I still have one day to go on this visit but I’m sure you could stay here a long time before you needed to go back to the same restaurant.

    Happy dining
