GOOD DAY MATE!

GOOD DAY MATE!

Well 2014 has begun very well. We had a wonderful Christmas back in Houston celebrating with all three daughters and husband and I in the same location which is increasingly difficult due to all our crazy schedules. I had a great time catching up with girlfriends and even got some tennis in at Westside.  Now I’m in Melbourne, Australia for the Tennis Open for a week before heading to Cairns and then Sydney!

The journey went smoothly considering that it began with me flying into London from Houston and David from Mumbai to meet up at Heathrow. We had a few hours back at the London apartment then left London around 10pm Friday night to fly to Dubai for a 1.5 hour layover before our flight to Melbourne, arriving Sunday morning . We didn’t realize that our Qantas flight was an Airbus380 – the double decker type – until we got off and then re boarded in Dubai and noticed that we were going to the top deck. Its a long journey, but the champagne was delicious so I’m still a very happy girl!
Being such an experienced packer, we had carryon luggage only for our 2 week vacation and so we got in and out of Melbourne airport super quickly and even surprised the driver with our quick arrival. Arriving at 7.30am on a Sunday morning made the 25 minute drive from the airport to the Park Hyatt hotel very easy. Melbourne feels a little like a US city from what we have seen so far. Our hotel is perfectly placed for the tennis as its less than a one mile walk as we discovered when we donned our running shoes and set out to explore.
Here are our first set of photos that we took during our Sunday morning run:
Britain’s Heather Watson on the practice courts
The tennis facility is huge, but there are plans to make it even bigger and better!

Lots of public transport here, trams and a big train terminal.

We ran past the China Town area as its not too far from our hotel

Our driver told us that in hot weather the kids have great fun with this fountain

    Interesting street name!
Lots more to come in the coming days. Im still pinching myself as I cant quite believe Im in Australia!
