5 ESSENTIAL TRAVEL ACCESSORIES

5 ESSENTIAL TRAVEL ACCESSORIES

When you travel as much as I do then you start to weed out those unnecessary items that take up wasted space in your bag but also find those little gems that make the journey that much more enjoyable. Let me share with you my current top five items.
    1. Bose Noise Cancelling Headphones: I must admit that I resisted buying these for quite some time. I had seen numerous people wearing them on my flights but to be honest could not see the point of adding an additional item to my carryon bag. All that changed when my husband bought us both a pair on a stopover in Heathrow. Aside from the amazing quality of sound, they are actually surprisingly comfortable to wear, and cut out that awful engine roar, not to mention crying babies and annoying fellow passengers.

    2. Bucky 40 Blinks Mask: I try to get as much sleep as I can on the overnight long haul flights I do and am always amazed at how long it takes for my fellow passengers to settle down. Not to mention the time it takes for the dinner service before the cabin lights are actually dimmed giving you a far better chance of sleep. Over the years I have experimented with a few different eye masks, but on my last trip I found my best pair yet. The Bucky mask is made of a contoured foam so the mask doesn’t actually touch your eyes. Call me shallow, but that means they don’t smudge my eye make up and leave me with my eyelashes in strange positions when I wake up. I also liked that the straps were adjustable with velcro closure and that they fold away to fit easily into my bag.

    3. Burberry Leather Travel Wallet: This is my little indulgence, and really it doesn’t need to be Burberry, that just happens to be my favourite brand at the moment. A travel wallet is the safest way to keep all your travel documents together including your boarding passes, passports, travel credit cards etc  Using this when I travel with my husband also saves him loosing his ticket as I am then in charge of all documentation.

    4. Packing Cubes: There are many different versions of these cubes on the market now. I find them a great way to organise my packing as you can separate items in an organised fashion (happy dance for me). They came in particularly handy on my last trip when I had less than a 24 hour turnaround time in Mumbai to repack for a beach vacation. I simply packed all the vacation clothes into the cubes so that when I got to Mumbai I pulled out just the cubes and repacked them into the case (discarding all the other clothes in Mumbai) I like this set as they are so colourful.

    5. Travel Bottles: Even if you don’t use these in your carryon bag (but they conform to TSA regulations so you can) they still make sense to use in your checked bag, as unless you are going on vacation for a few months, you really do not need your full sized bottles of shampoo, conditioner etc etc  The bottles can be refilled time and time again, take up far less space than your normal bottles, and fit inside their own bag that makes them easy to keep together plus gives the added bonus that if they do leak then the mess stays in the bag rather all over your clothes (yes I speak from experience on that last point).
