    Bose Noise Canceling Headphones

Although I resisted investing in these headphones for many years, once I finally splurged I cannot believe what a difference they have made. Now I use my Bose headphones whenever I travel. But why buy Bose? Industry insiders consistently rank Bose at the top of all the charts for quality and effectiveness. If you really don’t like the over-ear type then Bose have an answer for that with their QC20 model.

    The Satechi Travel Adapter

This is now on my wish list having just returned from the Maldives where I forgot to take my travel adapter and spent a few anxious days waiting for the hotel to find me a US friendly converter (which they eventually did). This Satechi adapter accepts all pins worldwide and has two USB ports. Why is that last part amazing? Two USB ports means that two devices can hook into the hotels WiFi connection – saving you money!

    Tumi carry on luggage

Readers of my blog will know that I am a fan of the luxury luggage retailer Tumi. I love the style and functionality built into all the Tumi products. The brand consistently comes up with new designs and continues to evolve as travelers’ needs and travel industry regulations change. Here is my ‘new favorite’ but take a look at their website to find a range that works best for your needs.

    Travel Wallet

This item appeals to my slightly OCD organized self but does it in an extremely stylish fashion. Let’s just say that after the incident when David lost his boarding pass between the customs check and the security point he no longer gets to hold onto our paperwork when we travel. I put everything safe inside my travel wallet and produce the necessary paperwork at the relevant times. My wallet also holds my airline frequent flyer cards, airport lounge entry cards, and any relevant travel itineraries or important information for the journey.

The Geography of Bliss: One Grump’s Search for the Happiest Places in the World by Eric Weiner

What It’s About. This book is exactly what it sounds like: A pessimistic (but kind of lovable) dude out to find why some countries and places are happier than others. Why You’ll Want To Wander: Though the book very clearly believes happiness is subjective, you can’t deny the obvious pleasure Weiner takes in getting to know and comparing all these unique places and people.

Vagabonding: An Uncommon Guide to the Art of Long-Term World Travel by Rolf Potts

This certainly seems like the trend at the moment. My Facebook and Instagram feeds are full of people that have walked away from the regular 9-5 lifestyle and have ‘gone traveling’ Vagabonding is a good example as it is the ultimate guide to ditching the familiar for a life on the road, whether it be two weeks or two years. Potts shares his expertise on planning, budgeting, working/volunteering, and dealing with the haters.

Why You’ll Want To Wander: This book basically obliterates any excuse you’ve ever had for not getting up and going. Potts’s can-do attitude is absolutely infectious.

    Fitbit

The global wearable fitness gadget that really will encourage you to move more. Fitbit’s come in a variety of options now but one feature that is especially motivating for me (not that I’m competitive or anything) is the fact that you can link up with friends and ‘compete’ for how many steps you travel everyday. Its simple really – I find my Fitbit a visual reminder to be more active. David and I use the Fitbit HR as this monitors our heart rate throughout the day and also our sleep pattern (or lack thereof when jet lag strikes).

    Exercise bands

Easy to pack, lightweight, and cheap to purchase – win, win, win. But here is why personal trainers recommend these exercise bands for travelers ‘When you’re using Resistance Bands you’re demonstrating a type of training called “Dynamic Resistance Training.” This refers to the fact that throughout the entire movement resistance is being applied to the muscle that is being worked. A Biceps Curl is a perfect example. When using a resistance band for a biceps curl at the top of the movement (meaning when your arm is up towards your shoulder) there is still resistance being placed on the muscle because of the elasticity of the band. If you were doing the same biceps curl with a standard free weight barbell, at the top of the movement there is little to no resistance being placed on the muscle. This is the beauty of Dynamic Resistance Training. The muscle is being placed under constant tension.

I need that travel adapter. I went to Italy and they have the weirdest plugs there. It’d be great to have one so I know I am covered in the many places where we travel. The travel wallet is a great idea. I didn’t get to take my fitbit with me to Turks and Caicos last week because the battery died the day we went. But I have another app that tracks my steps and it did a great job so I could make sure to keep up with it for the day.

My husband is a bit OCD with his Fitbit and would be way too upset to miss a day so we make sure we have as many adapters and chargers as possible when we travel.

      • This is great! It’s often hard to know what people who travel will want or need for their journeys and these are some really cool ideas. Something a bit different for any kind of traveler.

      • Great suggestions! As a traveler, I would love to receive these gifts myself 😉 I especially love the Vagabonding book as it’s really an amazing read. I haven’t read Bliss yet tho so I’ll check that out.

I love to read other peoples adventures with traveling, there certainly seems to be a far better selection of books on the topic out there now. Kind of inspiring don’t you think?

      • Tis the season for gift giving and I need to start working on my list. My husband is the hardest to get for and he’s a traveler, so this list is totally perfect. I think the noise canceling headphones will be great!

The Handpresso made me chuckle as I adore coffee and the thought of having a means to make it with me at all times was too good not to include on my list Maybe my husband will get the hint and get me one for Christmas!

      • I love these ideas! My dad travels a lot of business so I know he would love some of these gift ideas. I love Tumi luggages! They are seriously the best! I also love my Fitbit so I know this would make a great gift for those that travel all over!

        • Sue says:

We are a Fitbit family now so its fun to check online how everyone is doing considering we are spread across the globe – kind of a way to stay connected when we travel

      • A travel wallet can be so useful for keeping all those passports and currency together. I may just have to borrow some ideas from this list to put together for a surprise travel gift!

      • jataya says:

I would love to have the newest fitbit! Having a fitbit, especially while on vacation is a fun way to get you moving and enjoying the day to the fullest. If I were on a tropical island and had 2,000 more steps to reach my goal, I am sure I wouldn’t be too disappointed!

      • Tammileetips says:

This is a great list of travel gifts!! My husband and I are avid travelers so we are always looking for new gadgets and gear for our travels. I have been eyeing the fit bit for a while would be great to see steps in the airport ad up.

      • Britni says:

These are all really great ideas. I have a brother who has to travel a lot for work, I think many of these ideas would be great for him. I especially love the noise canceling head phones. Another thing I thought of was a travel pillow for all of the long plane rides!

      • Ynah.CA says:

Great ideas! Always been wanting to have a travel wallet to keep my documents organize but could not find a perfect fit! I guess this one might just be the one 🙂

        • Sue says:

I have found this wallet so useful to keep all the important documents together as my purse is a bit like Mary Poppins carpet bag and things just seem to disappear in it somehow.
