RESTAURANT REVIEW: THE TASTING ROOM, MUMBAI

    Monday Munchies: Shop then Dine

I was introduced to the shop Good Earth not long after I moved to Mumbai. But it took a little longer to discover The Tasting Room restaurant located within the store at Lower Parel. Seems like a great idea to me to locate a restaurant ‘inside’ a store, as who wouldn’t want to enjoy a little refreshment after a days shopping?

    Beautiful decor

Of course, you don’t have to shop to enjoy this restaurant (that’s just an added bonus). I have visited on quite a few occasions: to attend an AWC Cookery Class, lunch and dinner with girlfriends, plus the occasional pot of tea after a spot of shopping. I love how they use the merchandise from the store (subliminal advertising for sure) plus the colors with their “Tiffany” blue undertones are just so relaxing. The pots of fresh flowers on the tables and the ever changing décor items makes this restaurant a feast for the eyes as much as for the tummy.

    RESTAURANT REVIEW: THE TASTING ROOM

As with many places in Mumbai, this little gem really is tucked away off the beaten path.  You really need to know the store exists to find it. Very close to the High Street Phoenix Mall the Raghuvanshi Mills are well worth a visit.  There are quite a few cute shops to discover, especially home decor options.

Plenty to delight the palate too

The menu at The Tasting Room is quite eclectic, with a mix of veg and non-veg options to please most tastes. The Tasting Plates and Antipasti menu gives a selection of smaller dishes.  These plates are deal to share. Options include zucchini fries tossed in house made Cajun spice, or the crostini platter, or a cheese plate with a variety of cheese and fruits. There are various soups, salads, and sandwiches.  My selection for this visit was the Cajun spiced chicken burger with cheddar melt served on a whole-wheat bun and fries for 340 Rupees. There are a good variety of fish dishes to choose from. I particularly enjoy their pan seared John Dory served with kaffer lime and a mascarpone risotto, very filling.

    RESTAURANT REVIEW: THE TASTING ROOM

Meals are to be savored in Mumbai. Dine and dash does not work well here. Be prepared to linger over your meal and soak up the fun ambiance of this eclectic restaurant. There are various seating options.  With sofas, high tables, barstools, or larger cafeteria style seating to accommodate larger groups, you are sure to find something that works well for your group. And when you fall in love with the pretty plate that your food is served on, know that you do not need to go far to take the very same item home with you to enjoy again and again.
