I am very thankful to be back in Houston for the holidays. After a busy year full of travel I was so looking forward to being in one place for an extended period of time. With the entire family coming into town I could not wait to dig out the decorations and make the Houston house as festive as possible. I managed to contain my excitement and wait until the day after Thanksgiving but was clearly behind the curve as when I needed to shop for a few additional decorations, the stores were pretty empty already!
I had a huge clear out last year when I put my decorations away but sadly that has left me lacking in a few areas. Note to self to begin preparations earlier next year! I still have many of my favorites, items that have traveled with me around the globe and so remind me of Christmas past.
This room has been used far more since we remodeled our home a couple of years back, I think probably because it’s so comfy and inviting. Sadly we are lacking an area rug (thanks to one naughty puppy) but that will be put right if we ever leave Mumbai as I have the perfect one to bring back.
My decorating style is somewhat transitional and when decorating for the seasons I like to add a few touches here and there rather than go full out. I also prefer to reuse items from past years as they hold so many great memories. I also love to add fresh flowers and plants when I know I’m going to be home long enough to enjoy them. This year I discovered that my local Trader Joes was the place for good quality plants at a great price. I bought a number of these pretty poinsettia plants for just $5.99 each. This time around I had a couple of wreaths that I couldn’t find a home for so I decided to use them around my plants, plus add a few extra tree baubles – my Martha Stewart moment.
My home is usually pretty monochromatic so adding pops of color each season really livens up the space. This year I found a variety pillows and a comfy throw at a bargain price from Pier 1.
Note the bell hanger on my wine cupboard door, my new security system!
This year Liz officially joined the Oxley clan and so I wanted to add another stocking. Sadly I couldn’t find one to match the ones I have for Charlotte, Amy, and Rebecca so as to not make her feel like the odd one out I had personalized stockings made for myself and David too.
The two puppies in the family also get their own personalized stockings this year. I’m sure hoping I can add to this collection (hint hint I want another puppy). Did you notice the two ‘topiary’ reindeer on the mantle? I think they look like dogs dressed up so perfect for the ‘puppy corner’.

Happy holidays to you all
